|Circumstances:||The ITF was contacted by the crewmembers on the 18th August 2010. The vessel was arrested by the cargo receivers due to damaged cargo (cement). The owners have not been able have the matter resolved, the crewmembers have suffered with very little provisions. The owner of the vessel apparently died suddenly Jan 2011.|
|Actions taken:||17 February 2011: Other|
We had worked with the owners/operators in resolving the case, we were aware that the owners had agreed to pay the sum of $180,000 USD to have the matter resolved. Apparently from the owner┐s side this money was paid, but then the arresting party requested further money. We have informed the Georgian Registry, we also looked at whether the crewmembers would be able to have the vessel arrested in Libya but this was not possible.
|Repatriation status:||17 February 2011: Repatriation pending|
1 crewmember has been repatriated.
|Payment status:||17 February 2011: Payment Pending|
Presently the crewmembers are owed over $250,000 USD.
|Comments and Observations:||ITF (17 February 2011)|
Conditions on board seem to be causing high levels of stress and psychological trauma on board, one crew member apparently destroyed the bridge equipment and set fire to the bridge, fortunately other crewmembers were able to extinguish the fire. Since then crewmembers personal belongings have been taken and thrown overboard.
