An Act to make provision with respect to: divorce and separation; legal aid in connection with mediation in disputes relating to family matters; proceedings in cases where marriages have broken down; rights of occupation of certain domestic premises; prevention of molestation; the inclusion in certain orders under the Children Act 1989 of provisions about the occupation of a dwelling-house; the transfer of tenancies between spouses and persons who have lived together as husband and wife; and for connected purposes.
Repeals the following:
- The Domestic Violence and Matrimonial Proceedings Act 1976 (c.50);
- The Domestic Violence and Matrimonial Proceedings Act 1976 (c.19);
- The Matrimonial Homes Act 1983.
Also amends the following:
- The Domestic and Appellate Proceedings (Restriction of Publicity) Act 1968;
- The Matrimonial Causes Act 1973;
- The Domicile and Matrimonial Proceedings Act 1973;
- The Domestic Proceedings and Magistrates¿ Courts Act 1978;
- The Magistrates¿ Courts Act 1980;
- The Senior Courts Act 1981;
- The Administration of Justice Act 1982;
- The Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act 1984;
- The Administration of Justice Act 1985;
- The Housing (Consequential Provisions) Act 1985;
- The Building Societies Act 1986;

- The Legal Aid Act 1988;
- The Housing Act 1988;
- The Children Act 1989;
- The Courts and Legal Services Act 1990;
- The Private International Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1995.

An Act to amend the law relating to the jurisdiction of courts in the United Kingdom to make orders with regard to the custody of children; to make provision as to the recognition and enforcement of such orders throughout the United Kingdom; to make further provision as to the imposition, effect and enforcement of restrictions on the removal of children from the United Kingdom or from any part of the United Kingdom; to amend the law relating to the jurisdiction of courts in Scotland as to tutory and curatory; to amend the law relating to the recognition of divorces, annulments and legal separations; to make further provision with respect to the effect of divorces and annulments on wills; to amend the law relating to the powers of courts to make declarations relating to the status of a person; to abolish the right to petition for jactitation of marriage; to repeal the Greek Marriages Act 1884; to make further provision with respect to family proceedings rules; to amend the Child Abduction Act 1984, the Child Abduction (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 and the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985; and for connected purposes.
Makes amendments to a number of Acts listed in the Schedule and repeals the following Acts:
- The Greek Marriages Act 1884;
- Indian and Colonial Divorce Jurisdiction Act 1926;
- Indian and Colonial Divorce Jurisdiction Act 1940
- Matrimonial Causes (War Marriages) Act 1944;
- Colonial and Other Territories (Divorce Jurisdiction) Act 1950;
- Recognition of Divorces and Legal Separations Act 1971.

Pursuant to this Ordinance the Civil Evidence Act 1968 and the Civil Evidence Act 1972 are adopted as law of the Falkland Islands, subject to certain modifications and specific rules contained in the Ordinance. The specific rules concern rebuttal of common law presumptions as to legitimacy and illegitimacy, proof of instruments to validity of which attestation is necessary, presumptions as to documents twenty years old, and application of Acts relating to evidence.
