Act encompassing all seamen on Icelandic vessels. Persons younger than 15 years of age are not permitted to work at sea and in some cases the age limit can be 18 years. The provisions of the Act are divided into 6 sections. Section II contains eight chapters on the following matters: labour contracts, duration of contracts, right of seamen to request termination of employment, dismissals, wages, care of sick and injured seamen, death and burial of seamen, and labour contracts of ship's officers. Section III contains 11 chapters on the following matters: officers and command of the ship, control and precautions, general duties, arrival on ship and absence, compensation for damages caused by seamen, nourishment and accommodations, warranty of seaworthiness, meals and rest periods, disembarkation, luggage and other belongings, and disciplinary measures of the captain. Section IV contains provisions on disputes concerning the rights and duties of seamen. Section V contains penal provisions. Repeals Act No. 67 of 1963 on Seamen.

Provides for rules on the investment of the fund's assets and on workers' contributions. The main provisions concern disability. Each member of the fund who has paid his contribution for at least 3 and a half years has the right to compensation if the disability is 35 per cent or more. The amount cannot exceed the amount of wages that the worker had before the accident that led to his invalidity. In the case of death of a member, the Act stipulates which persons close to the member can become beneficiaries.

Members of the Fund are in general all seamen, both on fishing ships and cargo ships. Art. 2 contains detailed provisions on membership. Art. 4 to 8 contain provisions concerning administration and investment of the Fund's assets. Each member shall pay 4 percent of his wages as a contribution. The employer shall withhold the amount and reimburse the Fund within two weeks. The employer shall pay 6 percent of the wages of the worker to the Fund. Art. 11 contains provisions on the calculation of the acquired benefits. Each member can receive benefits at the age of 65 or sooner in special cases. The member can also defer his retirement. Art. 13 to 15 make provisions for disability benefits and survivor's benefits. Repeals Act No. 78 of 1970 on Pension Fund for Seamen.
