Provides for the grant and payment of pensions and gratuities to persons who have been employed on a casual basis in the public service. Establishes that pensions and gratuities are not an absolute right. Makes explicit the circumstances under which a pension or gratuity may be granted. Sets the rate of the pension or gratuity and terms of compensation. Defines the minimum length of service for which pensions or gratuities may be given as well as possible exceptions to this minimum. Makes pensions non-transferable. Provides compensation for the legal representatives of those who die on duty. Makes explicit that records of casual employees must be kept.

The Police Act
The Laws of Barbados, Chapter 167 (L.R.O. 1991), pp. 7-41

Consolidates and amends the Acts of Barbados relating to the Police Force. Part One provides preliminary definitions. Part Two sets out the designation objectives and constitution of the Police Force. This includes the establishment of the duties of the Commissioner, the Deputy and Assistant Commissioners, Superintendents, Justices of the Peace, Inspectors and Subordinate Officers. Part Three establishes the duties of the Force, including powers of arrest and additional powers in relation to the maintenance of public order. Part Four makes explicit the conditions and procedures under which an officer may be enlisted, suspended, dismissed or may resign. Part Five establishes regulations on discipline including punishment for serious offences. Part Six gives officers additional powers in ports and harbours. Part Seven has been repealed (1983-45). Part Eight establishes regulations on apprentices and the police band. Part Nine provides for the constitution and rules of the Police Association. It also restricts the activities of members of the Force vis-a-vis unauthorized organizations and commercial activity. Part Ten deals with Miscellaneous provisions on state expenditure with respect to uniforms, equipment, medical and funeral expenses as well as contains certain provsions relating to warrants. Part Eleven sets out offences and penalties for inter alia, assaulting or obstructing members of the police, improperly possessing police arms or equipment, harbouring or impersonating an officer and for refusing to come to the aid of an assaulted officer. Parts Twelve and Twelve (A) contain provisions relating to Special Constables and Traffic Wardens respectively. Part Thirteen sets out conditions under which the Minister has the power to make regulations.
