Made under Merchant Shipping Act 1951. Divided into 17 parts. Parts 1-2 (s. 1-8) contain general provisions. Part 3 (s. 9-10) provides for basic emergency preparedness and safety qualifications. Part 4 (s. 11-12) deals with qualifications for special functions; Part 5 (s. 13-14) with qualification for crew for whom certificate of competency is not required. Part 6 (s. 15-18) regulates certificates of competency for masters and mates, Part 7 (s. 19-22) certificates of competency for engineer officers, and Part 8 (s. 23-27) certificates of competency for personnel on board fishing vessels. Part 9 (s. 28-33) sets forth special training requirements for personnel on certain types of ships. Part 10 (s. 34-35) provides for validity of certificates of competency. Part 11 (s. 36) contains transitional rules. Part 12 (s. 37) deals with alternative certification; Part 13 (s. 38) with dispensations. Parts 14-17 deal with several related matters.
