Defines a child as a person under 14 years of age and a young person as under 16. Children may be employed in light work done within the family, specified public entertainment, appreticeships, and work sponsored by the government.Forbids night work and underground work for children and young persons, and sets forth hours of work. The Minister responsible for labour may declare an employment suitable for children or young persons if he is satisfied that such employment poses no threat to the life, limb, health or morals of the employee (s. 2(4)). Children and young persons shall be competent to enter into a contract of service, provided that no damages or indemnity under the Employment Act 1955 shall be recoverable from a child or young person for breach of service (s. 13).
