Decision No. 208 concerning the registration of the unemployed with the Employment Office.

Provides that the Employment Office provided for in the Labour Law No. 91 of 1959 and Amendments thereto should keep records of unemployed workers and ensure work for them in order of their registration. Other provisions relate to the organisation and work methods of the Office. The Decision also provides that no workers may be employed in certain works except in accordance with the regulations and priorities set by the Employment Office.

Directive requiring that enterprises employing more than 10 workers fill vacancies only through the Employment Office in accordance with the priorities in force.

A Directive issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs requiring that all positions becoming vacant at enterprises employing ten workers or more should be filled from the list of workers registered with the recently established Employment Office and in order of their registration. The directive provides for a number of exceptions.

The Law amends articles 11 and 12 and repeals articles 18 and 22 of Labour Law No. 91 and its amendments and charges the Ministry of Labour employment offices with finding work for the unemployed at home and abroad. The new article 18 provides that the Ministry shall be responsible for organising the work of Syrian Arab Nationals abroad , secure work for them and seek to safeguard their rights.
