    This Act contains the Working Time Act as well as several amendments of other Acts. The Hours of Work Act states the general rule that daily hours of work may not exceed 8 hours, and can only under certain circumstances be extended to 10 hours. Rest periods must be at least 30 minutes per day. After the end of daily hours of work there must be a rest period of at least 11 hours. There are special provisions for night workers and for dangerous work. On Sundays and on Bank Holidays employees may not work except in specific circumstances. Exceptions are possible for temporary work during emergencies.

    Stipulates the regular closing time for all kind of establishments selling merchandise to the public. Exempted from this basic regulation are some shops such as pharmacies, shops in airports, train and gas stations and bakeries. Employees working in enterprises exempted from the legal closing hours must not work more than eight hours on Sundays and statutory holidays, and the employer is obligated to compensate them with a free afternoon during the following working week if they work for more than three hours, and a completely free day, if they work for more than six hours.

Doctors working in hospitals can issue a sick leave for three days with the extension of three more days if needed. The sick leave must be stamped by the doctor himself. A consultant and a doctor at a hospital may issue a sick leave for four days with the extension of four more days if needed. The sick leave must be stamped by head of the hospital.

    Three doctors, one of which is a consultant, may issue a sick leave of eight days with the extension to 30 days if needed. The sick leave must be stamped by the head of the hospital. Issuing a sick leave of more than 30 days is at the capacity of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and the Military Medical Committees.

    "En las explotaciones comprendidas en el artículo 1, se admiten las siguientes excepciones: a) Cuando se trate de directores y gerentes"

    Resolución núm. 303/2000 por la que se establece que la Secretaría de Trabajo entenderá en las excepciones permanentes y temporarias previstas en el artículo 4 de la ley núm. 11544 en relación con el decreto núm. 484/2000 y se precisan los alcances de este último.

    Establece que las excepciones permanentes y temporarias previstas en el artículo 4 de la ley 11544 en relación al decreto núm. 484/2000, deberán tramitarse ante la Secretaría de Trabajo. Asimismo prescribe que el número máximo de horas suplementarias anuales previsto en el artículo 1 del decreto núm. 484/2000, se computará por año calendario.
