A further exception is full-time care for a closely-related adult person.

    Provides for Slovakia's political integration into Europe and its economic rapprochement with the European Union. In particular, envisages the establishment, over a period of ten years, of a free trade area within which there shall be a free movement of goods, persons and companies, and services. Special provisions govern the movement of capital, competition, approximation of laws, investment promotion and protection, and a number of other issues. Chapter I of Title IV deals with the movement of workers. The treatment accorded to workers of slovakian nationality legally employed in the territory of a member State shall be free from any discrimination and the legally resident spouse and children of such a worker shall have access to the labour market. Contains special provisions relating to the coordination of social security systems. Available in English.

    Mentally and seriously disabled persons receive special privileges according to the seriousness of their handicap, such as transport at reduced price. The State is obliged to create conditions for the social integration of those persons and must provide them with suitable jobs.

Hospital insurance includes sickness benefit, financial help for motherhood and pregnancy (paragraph 5). Retirement insurance includes pensions for elderly people, disabled persons, widows, widowers and orphans (paragraph 6).

The insurance provides free medical treatment, medicine and medical aid during sickness.

    Slovakia ratified the Convention 173 on 9 September 1998. The instrument of ratification was registered with the Director General of the International Labour Office on 24 September 1998. According to art. 3(1), Slovakia accepts only obligations of the Part II of the Convention; according to art. 4(2), Slovakia excludes from the Convention employees of state and semi-state organisations, as well as of municipal employees.

Covers a broad range of labour matters including the creation, modification and termination of employment relations, work discipline and work regulations, hours of work, rest and leave, wages, safety and the protection of health at work. Specific provisions apply to women, young workers and household workers. Special terms are established for parallel employment relations, subsidiary work activities, agreements for work performed outside of employment relations and apprenticeship. Provides that trade unions shall participate in labour relations, including collective bargaining, and sets out procedures for the supervision and inspection of the observance of labour legislation. Part 11 regulates liability for damage, Part 12 claims for sickness and social security, and Part 13 lock-out. Finally, Parts 14 and 15 contain common, temporary and miscellaneous provisions.
