Export Processing Zones Act (RL2/693). Adopción: 1970 | MUS-1970-L-45323 Governs recognition of areas as export porcessing zones. No overtime shall be paid for work which does not exceed 45 hours a week. A female employee who has had three confinements, if pregnant, shall be entitled to maternity leave without pay. Part IV of the Labour Act does not apply to employees in EPZs except in the case of unfair dismissal.

Constitution of Mauritius, 1968 (as amended to 1994). - Adopción: 1968-03-12 | MUS-1968-C-44027 Chapter II sets forth fundamental rights and freedoms, including the right to life (except in cases of death penalty), liberty, thought and expression; these rights shall be enjoyed equally without regard to race, origin, creed or sex. Sections 6 and 7 provide protection from forced labour, slavery and inhuman treatment. Emergency powers are provided in s. 18. Chapter III relates to citizenship. Chapters IV-X cover branches of the government, including the post of the Governor-General, the Parliament, the Executive, the Judiciary, and the post of the Ombudsman. Also contains the texts of 11 subsequent amendments to the Constitution. Act. No. 14 of 1983 amends s. 8, relating to the right to private property. Act No. 48 of 1991 creates the Republic of Mauritius, and adds a new Chapter IV to the Constitution, replacing the post of Governor-General with a President and Vice-President. Act No. 26 of 1994 amends s. 5, allowing deprivement of personal liberty in certain cases of drug offenses. Includes amendments through Constitution of Mauritius (Amendment) Act 1997 (No. 5).

Code Civil Mauricien (Act 105/1805). - Adopción: 1805 | MUS-1805-L-88152 The French Civil Code was extended to Mauritius under the title Code Napoléon by decree of Decaen, Capitaine-General, on 21 April 1808. This Code was modified and embodied in Chapter 179 of the Revised Laws of Mauritius 1945, edited by Sir Charlton Lane, former Chief Justice of Mauritius. The 1808 decree was repealed by Act 9 of 1983 but the Revision of Laws Act which was enacted in 1974 made provision, in section 7, for the publication of the Code under the title "Code Civil Mauricien". This Act gives effect to the will of the legislature.
