    The new law raises the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 7 to 12 in accordance with international standards. It also prioritises alternatives to detention and diversion from the legal system, ultimately adopting a rehabilitative approach to juvenile justice versus a penal one. The new law will further facilitate the work of Juvenile Police Department (JPD) and programs for children in conflict with the law.

    Repeals Law No. 24 of 1968 concerning Juvenile Law.

    Regulates the functioning of guardianship arrangements with children. Parents for legal guardianship must be Muslim, married for five or more years, and medically certified as infertile. Provides that the father must be between 35-55 years old, and the mother 30-50 years old.
    The prospective family for legal guardianship may have up to two children total, including the child(ren) for the legal guardianship. If the prospective guardians already have one child, then the Jordanian child placed in their care must be of the same sex as that child. Prospective guardian parents who have previously obtained legal guardianship in Jordan must wait a minimum of two years before seeking legal guardianship of another child of the same gender.

    This Order determines the types of hazardous employment that are prohibited for juveniles under the age of 18 years.
    The Order contains the following list of the types of jobs that are classified as hazardous or dangerous or tiring or harmful to the health of young workers.

    1. Physical Hazard Works
    2. Psychological and Social Hazards of Work
    3. Moral Hazardous Works
    4. Chemical Hazards
    5. Physical Hazards
    6. Biological and Bacteriological Hazards
    7. Ergonomic Hazards
    8. Other Hazards

    Under these headings, further details are given as to the specific occupations that are considered to be hazardous to youth. Under the title other Hazards, children prohibited from working on ships. The Minister by an order may add more hazardous employment that are prohibited for children under the age of 18 years and that shall be according to a report formed by a specialized authority.
