The Children’s Code Act, 2022 (Act No. 12 of 2022). - Adoption: 2022-08-09 | ZMB-2022-L-113999 An Act to reform and consolidate the law relating to children; provide for parental responsibility, custody, maintenance, guardianship, foster care, adoption, care and protection of children; provide for the grant of legal aid to, and establish procedures for the treatment of, children in conflict with the law; provide for the making of social welfare reports in respect of a child in conflict with the law; establish diversion and alternative correctional programmes and promote the rehabilitation of a child in conflict with the law through programmes to facilitate restorative justice and compliance with laws; provide for the protection of a child victim and child witness in investigative and judicial processes; provide for the probation of a child in conflict with the law and provision of probation services; provide for the development of treatment programmes, early intervention services and programmes to combat crime and prevent further offending; limit the negative effects of confinement by minimising the impact of a finding of guilty on the family of a child in conflict with the law and facilitate the re- integration of the child in conflict with the law into society; provide for the establishment of child approved centres and child reformatory centres; provide for the regulation of child care facilities; provide for child safeguarding; domesticate the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, the Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Inter-Country Adoption and the Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction; repeal the Legitimacy Act, 1929, the Adoption Act, 1956, the Juveniles Act,1956 and the Affiliation and Maintenance of Children Act, 1995 and provide for matters connected with, or incidental to, the foregoing.

Prohibition of the Employment of Young Persons and Children (Hazardous Labour) Order, 2013 (S.I. No. 121 of 2013). Adoption: 2013-12-09 | ZMB-2013-R-95833 Implements section 20 of the Employment of Children and Young Persons Act. Includes list of occupations that are considered to be hazardous for the employment of young persons and children.

Employment of Young Persons and Children (Amendment) Act, 2004 (No. 10 of 2004). - Adoption: 2004-09-08 | ZMB-2004-L-82353 Amends the principal Act (Cap. 274) by amending the long title by inserting after "and children" the words "to implement the International Labour Organisation Convention on Minimum Age and the International Labour Organisation Convention on the Worst Forms of Child Labour". Consequential amendments include increasing the definition of child from fourteen to fifteen years and inserting two new definitions, one on "covered worksites" and the other on the "worst forms of child labour" into section 2. Also amends section 4, in particular by inserting a new section 4A on the prohibition of the employment of children and 4B on the prohibition of employment of children in the worst forms of child labour. Amendments to section 7 and 17 concern exceptions with respect to light work for family purposes and artistic performances. A new section 17A is also inserted concerning prohibition of employment for the worst forms of child labour.

Medical Examination of Young Persons (Underground Work) Act (No. 20 of 1973) (Cap. 216). - Adoption: 1973-03-23 | ZMB-1973-L-66217 Provides for implementation in Zambia of ILO Convention Nr. 124 concerning medical examination of young persons for fitness for emplyoment underground in mines. Establishes that no employer shall employ or require to work underground in a mine any person under the age of 21, unless after thorough medical examination carried out by or under supervision of approved physician, such person is certified by physician to be in every way physically fit for such work. Also provides for some related matters.
