Applies to every employer and self-employed person at a workplace where lead is produced, processed, used, handled or stored in a form in which it can be inhaled, ingested or absorbed by any person in that workplace. Individual sections deal with exposure to airborne lead, information and training, duties of persons who may be exposed, assessment of potential exposure, air monitoring, medical surveillance, respirator zone, records, control of exposure to lead, personal protective equipment and facilities, cleanliness of premises and plant, labelling, packaging, transportation and storage and disposal of waste.

    Made under Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993. Comprehensive legislation on hazardous biological agents (HBA). Applies to every employer and self-employed person at a workplace where (a) HBA are deliberately produced, processed, used, handled, stored or transported; or (b) an incident occurs that does not involve a deliberate intention to work with HBA but may result in persons being exposed to HBA in the performance of his or her work. Provides for classification of biological agents, information and training, duties of persons who might be exposed to HBA, monitoring exposure at workplace, medical surveillance, records, control of exposure to HBA, personal protective equipment and facilities, maintenance of control measures and equipment, prohibitions, labelling, packaging, transportation, storage, special measures for health and veterinary isolation facilities, disposal of HBA, and offences and penalties. Annex B contains guidelines for categorisation of biological agents according to hazard and categories of containment.

Applies to employers, self-employed persons and users who have on their premises, either permanently or temporarily, a major hazard installation or a quantity of a substance which may pose a risk that could affect the health and safety of employees and the public. Makes provision for notification of installation, temporary installations, risk assessment, on-site emergency plans, reporting of risk and emergency occurrences, general duties of suppliers, general duties of local government, closure, and offences and penalties.

    Provides comprehensive regulations on hazardous chemical substances in the workplace, including dust in mining operations. In certain cases requires employers to provide air monitoring, medical surveillance, training, protective equipment, and to dispose of chemical wastes safely. Three annexed Tables set occupational exposure limits as well as biological exposure indices for hazardous chemical substances.

    Amends the Driven Machinery Regulations, 1988, inter alia, by inserting definitions of "bench saw", "builder's hoist", "hatchway", "lifting machine", "lifting tackle" and "press"; by substituting for subregulation 7 a subregulation that provides that every user of a lifting machine shall at all times keep on his premises a register in which he shall record full particulars of any performance test and examination and any modification or repair of the lifting machine and shall ensure that the register is available on request for inspection by an inspector; and by adding a subregulation that provides that the user shall ensure that every lifting machine is operated by an operator specifically trained for the particular type of lifting machine.
