(Legislative Series, 1967-USA 1) to clarify the protection given to older individuals in regard to employee benefit plans, and for other purposes. The Act is also intended to ensure that older workers are not coerced or manipulated into waiving their rights to seek legal relief under the 1967 Act.

Adoption: 1986-10-31 | Date of entry into force: 1987-01-01 | USA-1986-L-2964 Amends the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (LS 1967 - USA 1) to remove the maximum age limitation which was applicable to employees protected under the 1967 Act. There are exceptions regarding the compulsory retirement of firefighters and law enforcement officers, and special provisions govern the retirement of tenured faculty at institutions of higher education. Effective date 1 Jan. 1987, with later entry into force for persons covered by a collective bargaining agreement containing a provision which would be supersed by this Act (section 7).

Adds a new Title IX: Community service employment for older Americans, which may be cited as the Older American Community Service Employment Act, and a new Title III: Prohibition of discrimination based on age, which may be cited as the Age Discrimination Act of 1975.
