The Act revises the definition of "disability" to more broadly encompass impairments that substantially limit a major life activity. The amended language also states that mitigating measures, including assistive devices, auxiliary aids, accommodations, medical therapies and supplies (other then eyeglasses and contact lenses) have no bearing in determining whether a disability qualifies under the law. Changes also clarify coverage of impairments that are episodic or in remission that substantially limit a major life activity when active, such as epilepsy or post traumatic stress disorder.

Adoption: 1990-10-30 | Date of entry into force: 1990-10-01 | USA-1990-L-21365 Amends the Education of the Handicapped Act to revise and extend the programs established in parts C through G thereof, and for other purposes. Title II covers assistance for education of all handicapped individuals, including allocations, State plans, evaluation, etc; title III provides for centers and services to meet special needs of handicapped individuals; other titles cover training personnel for the education of handicapped individuals, research in such education, technology, etc.

Older Workers Benefit Protection Act. Public Law 101-433 (S.1511). Adoption: 1990-10-16 | USA-1990-L-21359 Amends the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (29 USC 621 et seq.) (Legislative Series, 1967-USA 1) to clarify the protection given to older individuals in regard to employee benefit plans, and for other purposes. The Act is also intended to ensure that older workers are not coerced or manipulated into waiving their rights to seek legal relief under the 1967 Act.
