The Tobacco Control Act 2009 (Act No. 15 of 2009). - Adoption: 2009-12-23 | Date of entry into force: 2010-02-17 | TTO-2009-L-83347 An Act to prevent tobacco use by children; regulate tobacco use by individuals; enhance public awareness of the hazards of tobacco use and ensure that individuals are provided with information to make more fully informed decisions about using tobacco; protect individuals from exposure to tobacco smoke; prohibit and restrict promotional practices; prevent smuggling of tobacco; provide for regulation of tobacco products to mitigate against the harmful effects of tobacco; and provide for other related matters.

Occupational Safety and Health Act (Cap. 88:08). - Adoption: 2004-01-30 | TTO-2004-L-67864 Comprehensive legislation on occupational safety and health. Divided into 15 parts. Part 1 (s. 1-5) contains preliminary provisions. Part 2 (s. 6-13) sets forth general duties of employers and employees. Part 3 (s. 14-21) establishes rights of employees to refuse work where safety or health is in danger. Part 4 (s. 22-25) contains provisions regarding safety. Part 5 (s. 26-30) deals with fire, Part 6 (s. 31-38) with health, Part 7 (s. 39-45) with welfare, and Part 8 (s. 46-52) with notification and investigation of accidents and industrial diseases. Part 9 (s. 53-56) regulates employment of young persons. Part 10 (s. 57-58) deals with application of Act. Part 11 (s. 59-63) contains special provisions regarding factories, building operations and works of engineering construction. Part 12 (s. 64-68) establishes Occupational Safety and Health Authority. Part 13 (s. 69-82) deals with administration; Part 14 (s. 82-97) with offences. Part 15 (s. 98-100) contains miscellaneous provisions.

Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago (Incorporation) Act, 1999 (No. 28 of 1999). Adoption: 1999-10-12 | TTO-1999-L-56641 Provides for the establishment of the Safety Council of Trinidad and Tobago (Association). Defines the aims, objectives and powers of the Council. The aims of the Council include the collection and analysis of data on accidents and work-related illnesses and injuries.

Factories Ordinance (Chapter 30 No. 2). Adoption: 1948 | Date of entry into force: 1948-12-18 | TTO-1948-R-43290 Provides comprehensive regulations concerning health, sanitation and safety in factories. Part III contains health regulations, including provisions relating to the powers of health inspectors. Part IV provides safety regulations, relating to, inter alia, procedures in case of fire, pressure valves, and dangerous machinery. Part IV relates to notification and investigation of accidents and industrial diseases. Part VII prohibits the employment of women and children in factories other than in accordance with orders which may be made by the governor in Council (s. 42).

Public Health Ordinance. Adoption: 1917-01-01 | TTO-1917-R-43289 Establishes a Central Board of Health. Part VIII prohibits "offensive trades," specified in Schedule I. Part X covers food regulations. Part XVI covers health requirements in bakeries; Part XVIII in hotels and restaurants; Part XIX in factories.
