Occupational Safety and Health (Safety Officers) Regulations, 2012 (S.I. 6 of 2012). Adoption: 2012-03-01 | SYC-2012-R-91736 In enterprises of more than 50 workers, the employer is to ensure that a safety officer is elected. The employer is to inform the Chief Executive of the Ministry or Department responsible for the administration of the OSH Decree (the Director) in writing of the name of each safety officer or safety representative. The Director is to keep a registry of these names (article 3). The Safety officer is to carry out their work, as far as practicable, under the supervision of a person who has effective control over the work that is carried on within the enterprise (article 4). The employer is to provide all necessary facilities, equipment and information to the Safety Officer (article 5). The Regulations also set out the contents that are required in the Safety Officer's reports (article 6) and the action the employer must take on receipt of this report (article 7). Article 8 sets out the duties of the Safety Officer. Article 9 sets out the categories of premises that are, irrespective of the number of employees in the premises, considered as involving particular risks to safety and health in accordance with sections 26 and 5(2) of the OSH Decree. Article 10 provides that the Director has the power to appoint or designate a Safety Officer if the plant, process or substances to be used warrant such appointment, regardless of the number of persons employed.

Occupational Health and Safety Decree (Amendment) Act, 1999 (No. 10 of 1999). Adoption: 1999-10-28 | SYC-1999-L-54434 Amends the Occupational Safety and Health Decree 1978 with regard to the duty of employers to notify the Director of any accidents or illnesses at work.

Occupational Safety and Health (Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations, 1997. Adoption: 1997 | SYC-1997-R-49715 Applies to all worksites, including temporary workplaces. Provides for maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of workplaces and for specific regulations regarding lighting, ventilation, and working space. S. 9 sets forth maximum exposure limits to ionising radiation, and provides for the removal of workers from sources of radiation and for subsequent medical supervision if employees are exposed to radiation over the set limits. S. 21 provides for medical supervision at worksites where hazardous materials are used. Employers are required to provide fist aid materials and devise emergency evacuation plans at workplaces with 25 or more employees. Also provides for noise protection and protective clothing. Repeals the Occupational Safety and Health (Health and Welfare) and (Miscellaneous) Regulations, 1991.

Occupational Safety and Health (Miscellaneous) Regulations, 1991 (S.I. 69 of 1991) Adoption: 1991-11-05 | Date of entry into force: 1991-11-16 | SYC-1991-R-26474 Under the authority of the Occupational Safety and Health Decree of 1978, the Regulations mandate workplace safety including safe access and exit, safe stairways and ladders, and safety precautions for employees working in confined spaces.

Occupational Safety and Health (Construction Industry, Confined Space and Welding) Regulations, 1991 (S.I. 61 of 1991) Adoption: 1991-10-08 | SYC-1991-R-26475 Under the authority of the 1978 Occupational Safety and Health Decree, Regulations protect workers in construction industry, those working in confined spaces and welders by providing standards for workplace safety as well as requirements for protective eyewear and clothing.

Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 1989. No. 3. Adoption: 1989-03-08 | SYC-1989-L-9148 Amends the Occupational Safety and Health Decree 1978. Part II entitled "Duties", providing for, inter alia, general duties of employers to employees, of employers and self-employed persons to persons other than employees, and duties concerning premises and of employees at work, is amended. Amends Part IV entitled "Officials and Health and Safety Representatives" providing for the responsibility of a Director for administration of the Decree and for the election or appointment of health and safety representatives to monitor and report safety and health problems. A new Part VI on obtaining and disclosing information replaces Part VI of the principal Decree. Amends Part VIII of the principal Decree providing for penalties.
