Slovakia - Maternity protection - Regulation, Decree, Ordinance

Ordinance No. 272/2004 establishing a list of tasks and workplaces which are forbidden to pregnant women, for mothers until nine months after delivery and for breast-feeding women, a list of tasks and workplaces which contain a higher risk for pregnant women, for mothers until nine months after delivery and for breast-feeding women, as well as establishing some obligations for employers when employing these women.

Annexes 1 and 2 give the lists of tasks and workplaces. Annex 3 indicates legal Acts of the EC and of the EU that are incorporated in Slovak legislation.

Notification No 190/2002 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the adoption of the Convention of the International Labour Organization No. 183/2000 concerning the Revision of the Maternity Protection Convention (Revised), 1952

In accordance with Article 4(2) of the Convention, the length of the maternity leave is 28 weeks ; if the woman gave birth to two or more children at the same time or if she is a single mother, the length of the maternity leave is 37 weeks.

Inter alia provides for preventive health measures to be taken in factories (regular check-ups for employees engaging in skin-damaging labour or any other dangerous work).
