    Amends the Act, inter alia, by widening the definition of "partner", in the phrase "spouse or partner" and in related contexts, to mean a civil union partner or a de facto partner and "spouse" means husband or wife.

    Amends sections 34 and 35 of the Child Support Act 1991 relating to circumstances in which custody of 2 or more children is split between 2 liable parents. Inserts a new Part VIA relating to departure from formula assessment of child support. Also provision on unremitted deductions made by employers.

    The Act assess the minimum level of financial support payable by certain parents in respect of their children. Provides for the collection and payment of child support and spousal maintenance payments. Makes transitional arrangements relating to maintenance liabilities under the Social Security Act 1964 and the Family Proceedings Act 1980.
