Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018. Adoption: 2018 | Date of entry into force: 2019-01-03 | NGA-2018-L-112595 The Act prohibits discriminating against people with a disability. It sets out penalties for non-compliance that can be levied at individuals or corporations and further provides for the full integration of disabled persons into society, including free education up to secondary school with the provision of assistance devices from the government and trained personnel. It also stipulates a five-year transitional period after which public buildings and transport must be accessible. The Act establishes the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities to oversee access to housing, education, and healthcare for persons with disabilities.
