    The Regulations implement the 2006 amendment to the Employment of Women, Young Persons, and Children Act (No. 47 of 1956) which added a new Section 20A prohibiting the employment of children in hazardous occupations.     Amends numerous sections of the Act concerning, inter alia, penalties in case of offenses (sections 2, 2A, 4 to 11, 16 to 18, 21, 22, 24, 26 and 30). Adds section 8A dealing with furnishing of information regarding employment of young persons industrial undertakings. Replaces section 13 on restriction on employment of children and section 14 on employment of children by parents or guardians. Amends section 19 to raise to 18 years the age under which it is prohibited to take part in performances endangering life or limb and section 20 on restrictions on training for performances of a dangerous nature. Contains also amendments to section 30 on medical examination and section 34 on interpretation of the Act.

    Establishes a National Child Protection Authority with the function of devising policy on the protection of children from child abuse and the effects of armed conflict. The Authority shall also prepare a national database on child abuse and consult with the tourism sector with a view to minimising opportunities for child abuse.

    Regulation 1 provides that no children should be employed in any occupation.

    Regulations 3-8 and the Schedule which provided for hours of work and rest periods were repealed by Regulation published in the Gazette No. 1116/5 of 26.01.2000.

    Prohibits night work for women and persons younger than the age of 18; Part II prohibits the employment of children in general in industrial undertakings, except in family enterprises. Part III regulates child labour in undertakings other than industry or seafaring. "Child" is defined as a person under 14 years of age.
