Treaty Establishing the East African Community (1999). -

Establishes the East African Community, the objectives of which are to develop policies and programmes aimed at widening and deepening cooperation among the Partner States in political, economic, social and cultural fields, research and technology, defence, security and legal and judicial affairs, for their mutual benefit.

Agreement establishing the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute, signed by the Governments of the Republic of Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania and Republic of Uganda. Done at Arusha.

The objectives of the Institute established under the Agreement, with headquarters in Arusha, are to improve the performance and management effectiveness of public and private institutions and enterprises within the member States (open to designated countries of Eastern and Southern Africa). Its principal functions are training, research, documentation, consultancy and development of new management techniques. The Agreement is given force of law in Tanzania by the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute Act 1987 (No. 3).
