    The Civil Status Law No. 9 of 2001.

    Regulates the registration of births and deaths as well as that of foundlings. It also regulates the granting of identification and family cards. Article 57a provides that for the purposes of this law the head of family shall be the father or widow or widows (each in respect of her children) or the oldest unmarried child. The Director of the Civil Register may designate a head of family in cases not provided for in the article.
