    The authority of this regulation arises out of Act No. 53 of 1993 on a bankruptcy warranty fund. It sets out rules regarding the conditions for payments.

    Contains provisions regarding a warranty fund that guarantees the remuneration of workers in case of bankruptcy as well as the claim of a recognized pension fund.

    The Wage Tribunal decides on the wages of the President of Iceland, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Supreme Court judges, district judges,the Bishop of Iceland, the State Auditor, the State Arbitrator, the State Prosecutor and the Ombudsman. The Tribunal shall in its decisions take into consideration the wages of other employees who hold equivalent positions as well as wage policy in general on the labour market. The Wage Council decides the wages of numerous civil servants holding high positions. The Council shall follow the same main principles in its decisions as the Wage Tribunal. The Tribunal and the Council shall reconsider their decisions every year and decide if there is a reason to alter them.

    The Act provides for the establishment of a warranty fund that guarantees the remuneration of the worker in the case of bankruptcy as well as the claim of a recognized pension fund.

    The provisions of Act No. 28 of 1930 on wage payment shall also apply to the wages of drivers.

    Stipulates that the wages of all workers shall be paid in valid currency, except for fishermen who can be paid with part of the catch. Wages shall be paid weekly, unless otherwise negotiated. This does not apply to agricultural workers who get food and lodging as a part of their wages. The above mentioned provisions also apply to contract work.
