Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (No. 33 of 1989). -

An Act to prevent the commission of offences of atrocities against the members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, to provide for Special Courts for the trial of such offences and for the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of such offences and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

In particular, this Act provides that no person is to compel or entice a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe to do `beggar' or other similar forms of forced or bonded labour other than any compulsory service for public purposes imposed by Government.

Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Rules 1976 [as amended, with comments and references to cases]

Under the authority of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act of 1976, these Rules establish District Vigilance Committees to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Act.

The Act provides for the abolition of the bonded labour system; on the commencement of the Act every bonded labourer is discharged from any obligation under the terms of his bond.

A Major is a person who is 18 years old or older.
