Also replaces them in part for other members in accordance with the Local Government Pension Scheme (Transitional Provisions) (Scotland) Regulations 1998 (S.I. 1998/364). Except as so replaced the 1987 Regulations will continue to apply to deferred or pensioner members unless they become active again.

Provides that, except in circumstances prescribed by regulations made under the Pensions Schemes (Northern Ireland) Act, 1993, a surviving spouse shall be entitled to a pension on the death of a member of a judicial pension scheme providing the marriage took place before the member retired. Also amends the Judicial Pensions (Guaranteed Minimum Pension) Order (Northern Ireland) 1995 in order to clarify the calculation of the contribution to a surviving spouse's guaranteed minimum pension payable in the event of marriage during retirement.

Amends the Social Security (Incapacity for Work) (General) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 so that certain persons who are entitled to disablement pension, or assessed for the purpose of severe disablement allowance as 80 per cent disabled, are treated as incapable of work.

Prescribes the further conditions on which policies of insurance and annuity contracts may be assigned, surrendered or commuted and on which liability may be discharged.
