Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 (S.I. No. 869 of 1997) (NI 6). Adoption: 1997-03-19 | GBR-1997-R-46411 Part I defines racial discrimination and racial groups; racial groups are persons defined by colour, race, nationality and ethnicity. This includes persons belonging to the Irish Traveller community, but does not encompass religious or political affiliation. Part II covers discrimination in the employment field. Renders illegal discrimination based on race by employers, employment agencies, vocational training institutions, and trade unions. Exceptions are made for artistic productions and eating and drinking establishments seeking to provide a setting with "authenticity" (s. 8). Part III relates to discrimination in other fields, including education and housing. Part IV deals with other unlawful acts, including discrimination in advertisement; Part V relates to charities;, Part VI deals with exceptions to the Act arising from special needs of racial groups in regard to education, training and welfare. A Commission for Racial Equality for Northern Ireland is established in Part VII with the function of promoting racial equality and investigating reported violations. Part VIII covers enforcement of the Act and extends the jurisdiction of industrial tribunals to matters related to the Act.

S. 2 enables an industrial tribunal to award compensation to a person who has suffered indirect discrimination under Part II of the 1975 Act, even where the respondent did not intend to treat the claimant unfavourably on the ground of his or her sex or marital status, where it would not be just and equitable to grant other remedies alone. S. 3 alters the procedure for claims to equal pay for work of equal value. The Regulations implement Council Directives 1976/207/EEC and 1975/117/EEC respectively.

Child Benefit (General) Amendment Regulations 1991 (S.I. No. 2105 of 1991) Adoption: 1991-09-18 | Date of entry into force: 1991-10-14 | GBR-1991-R-27237 Amends the Child Benefit (General) Regulations 1976 by specifying under regulation 2 the arrangements where accomodation is provided in relation to regulation 3 of the principal regulations under which a person may be entitled to child benefit nothwithstanding the absence of a child who is in residential accomodation; regulation 16(5) is amended to provide that there will be no title to child benefit in respect of a child who is looked after by a local authority in specified circumstances.

Disqualification for Caring for Children Regulations 1991 (S.I. No. 2094 of 1991) Adoption: 1991-09-17 | Date of entry into force: 1991-10-14 | GBR-1991-R-27252 Replaces the disqualifications contained in the Nurseries and Childminders Regulations Act 1948, the Child Care Act 1980 and the Foster Child Act 1980 which are repealed by the Children Act 1989. Regulation 2 and the Schedule specify various circumstances in which a person is disqualified from fostering a child privately; and disqualified from being registered as a childminder on domestic premises or as a person who provides day care for children under 8 on non-domestic premises. Regulation 3 provides that a person who is disqualified under section 68 of the Act from fostering a child privately shall not carry on or be involved with a voluntary children's home or employed in such an establishment without the consent of the Secretary of State. Social Security Act 1990 (Chapter 27) Adoption: 1990-07-13 | GBR-1990-L-22106 Amends the law relating to social security and to occupational and personal pension schemes; establishes and confers functions of a Pensions Ombudsman and a Registrar of Occupational and Personal Pension Schemes; makes provision for the payment of grants for the improvement of energy efficiency in certain dwellings; and for purposes connected therewith. Amends the Social Security Act 1975 by providing for an attendance allowance for the terminally ill, for an age-related addition to severe disablement allowance and for other matters connected with allowances, invalidity pensions, survivors' benefits, etc. Consequential amendments are made to the Social Security Pensions Act 1975, the Social Security Acts 1975 to 1989, the Industrial Injuries and Diseases (Old Cases) Act 1975 and various other acts.
