Regulation 3 revokes Regulations 3 and 7 of the 1975 Regulations together with Regulation 13(4) of the Social Security (Child Benefit Consequential) Regulations 1977. These Regulations relate to maternity and death grants which were abolished under sections 38, 41 and 86 and Schedule 11 of the Social Security Act 1986.

    Provides with respect to employment training that section 8 of the Employment Act 1989 shall apply to any special treatment afforded (a) by the making of any payment, in connection with the participation of a lone parent in employment training, to a person having the care of a child of that lone parent or (b) by the fixing of any special condition for the participation of lone parents in employment training. By virtue of section 8(2) of the Employment Act 1989, where the section applies to any special treatment afforded to or in respect of lone parents, neither the treatment so afforded nor any act done in the implementation of such treatment shall be regarded for the purposes of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (LS 1975 - UK 1) as giving rise to any discrimination falling within section 3 of that Act (discrimination against married persons for the purposes of Part II of that Act).

    Consequential upon section 9 of the Social Security Act 1989 which extends the meaning of "earnings" to include personal as well as occupational pensions. Regulations 2 and 3 amend references to occupational pensions in both the Social Security Benefit (Dependency) Regulations 1977 and the Social Security Benefit (Computation of Earnings) Regulations 1978 so as to include a reference to personal pensions.

    Amends the Employment Ordinance by, inter alia, inserting Part VA entitled "Sex Discrimination". Section 52A(1) provides that, for the purposes of certain provisions of the Ordinance," the principle of equal treatment means that there shall be no discrimination whatsovever on grounds of sex either directly or indirectly by reference in particular to marital or family status." Section 52B(1) provides: "Application of the principle of equal treatment means that there shall be no discrimination whatsoever on grounds of sex in the conditions, including selection criteria, for access to all jobs or posts, whatever the sector or branch or activity, and to all levels of the occupational hierarchy." Section 52C provides for the application of the principle of equal pay for equal value, and by, s. 52D, laws, regulations and administrative provisions contrary to the principle of equal treatment or the principle of equal pay, cease to have effect. Section 52E provides for the competence of the Industrial Tribunal to consider complaints and to provide remedies.

Amends the Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Act 1976 and makes further provision with respect to the promotion of equality of opportunity in employment and occupations in Northern Ireland between persons of different religious beliefs.

    Amends the law relating to social security and occupational and personal pension schemes; makes provision with respect to certain employment-related benefit schemes; and provides for the recovery, out of certain compensation payments, of amounts determined by reference to payments of benefit. Section 5 concerns liability to maintain children, sections 6 to 12 - benefits under the principal Act including requalification and disqualification of unemployment benefit, sections 13 to 16 - income-related benefits, sections 17 to 18 - up-rating, and sections 19 to 21 - information and adjudication. Section 23 provides for equal treatment for men and women with respect to occupational and personal pensions. Schedule 9 indicates repeals.

    Subject to certain conditions, section 21 of the Judicial Pensions Act 1981 permits the payment of a children's pension under that Act to continue after the child reaches the age of 16 if the child is undergoing training for a trade, profession or vocation. This Order revokes the Superannuation (Children's Pensions) (Earnings Limit) Order 1988 and increases the limit on such emoluments.
