    Adoption: 2004-05-11 | Date of entry into force: 2004-05-11 | ETH-2004-L-85153

    Amends article 9 by adding a new sub-article (6), (7), (8) and (9) concerning registration and suspension of co-operatives. Article 16(1)-(3) is deleted and replaced with new articles concerning the payment of shares. Article 33(1) and (2) are deleted and replaced concerning distribution of profits. Article 34(2) is repealed. New sub-articles 40(3) and (4) are inserted and the following sub-articles are renumbered accordingly. Article 46 is deleted and replaced by a new article concerning settling disputes through conciliation. Article 58(2) is deleted and replaced by a new sub-article and a new article 59 is added concerning obligation to cooperate.

    Provides for establishment of Cooperatives' Commission as autonomous Federal Government Organ. Objective of Commission is "to enable rural and urban working people to solve the economic and social problems they face by themselves and become self-reliant by being organized in cooperatives different in type and standard depending on local resources." Also regulates powers, duties and organization of Commission.

    5 - Governance of cooperatives: general assembly, management committee, control committee and other sub-committees.
    6 - Special privileges of cooperative societies: priority of claims, set-off, government assistance.
    7 - Assets and funds of cooperative societies.
    8 - Audit and inspection.
    9 - Dissolution and winding up of cooperatives
    10 - Dispute settlement and other miscellaneous provisions.

  4. Ethiopia - Cooperatives - Law, Act

    Oromia Agricultural Cooperatives Promotion Bureau Establishment Proclamation (No. 15 of 1997).

    Adoption: 1997-07-07 | Date of entry into force: 1997-07-07 | ETH-1997-L-48384

    Establishes the said bureau as part of the Regional Government with the function of organizing and developing agricultural cooperatives.
