    Articles 2 and 3 of the present Law amend the phrasing of article 26, phrases 2 and 3 and article 35B, phrase 11, respectively, of the Law on Public Educational Service.
    Article 4 introduces new article 39A providing for a special provision regarding the placement, transfer and displacement of educational functionaries.
    Article 5 sets the date of entry into force of the present Law as of 01.09.2016.

    Article 2 of the present Law amends article 28B, by replacing paragraph (c) of 3rd phrase and subparagraphs (i), (ii) and (iii) of paragraph (a) of the reservation of 13th phrase, with new ones, regarding the calculation of credits depending on the time of previous working experience.

    Article 3 sets the date into force of the Law and stipulates the retroactive effect of paragraph (a) of article 2 of the present Law.

    Article 2 amends article 23, by adding new terms and definitions.

    Article 3 amends the wording of the 4th phrase of article 28A.

    Article 4 introduces the following new articles: 28BA, concerning the duration of effect of the tables setting out the persons subject to appointment; 28BB, concerning the drafting of tables setting out the persons eligible for appointment and 28BC, concerning the transitional period up until the exclusive application of the tables setting out the persons eligible for appointment.

    Article 5 amends article 28C by replacing the side-heading with new one, worded as follows: "Appointments from the tables setting out the persons subject to appointment and the tables setting out the persons eligible for appointment" and by amending the 1st phrase with regard to procedural matters related to the eligibility for appointment.

    Article 6 introduces new article 30A, regarding the edifying and instructional competency.

    Article 7 amends article 32 by supplementing the wording of the 3rd phrase and by deleting the 4th phrase.

    Article 8 amends the wording of the 2nd phrase of article 36.

    Article 9 sets out the date of entry into force of the present Law.

    The Law amends the Law on the recruitment procedure for extraordinary personnel in the Public and Educational Services, by abolishing articles 4, 4A and 4B and by adding new article 4 concerning the accession and employment in alternative categories of employees under open-ended contracts, and new article 4A concerning the transfer of employees under open-ended contracts.

    Amends article 28, paragraph (b) of the Law on Public Educational Service by adding:
    - new phrase worded as follows: "and, considering that it is about citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, they have executed or have been legitimately discharged from their military obligations";
    - new reservations concerning the conduct of medical examinations and the submission of certificates of military status for the purposes of appointing in positions citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who have been legitimately discharged from their military obligations.

    Act No 53(I) of 2000 providing wage increases for members of different committees in the public service or in the Public Instruction Service.

    Provides for a 1 percent wage increase for committee members starting from the 1st January 1999, and a 2 per cent raise starting from 1 January 2000. Stipulates that these raises are also to be taken into consideration in calculating allowances for cost of living increases and pensions.

    Amends the acts providing for the public instruction service so as to permit candidates who are ill - and have medical certificates to prove it - to begin their training programmes as soon as they are physically able to do so. Also stipulates that priority is to be given to those possessing the Educational Institute's certificate when deciding amongst candidates invited to serve under contract during the school year 2000-2001.

    Amends S. 5 of the basic act, stipulating that the Selection Committee may not appoint a candidate who has been convicted for a penal offence or is under a suspended penal procedure for a crime concerning lack of honesty, or moral depravity, or has previous service in the Public Education Service that has been evaluated as unsatisfactory.

    Modifies definition of a school assistant in article 2. The school assistant is responsible for keeping the nursery neat and clean, surveying the safety of the children during the regular opening hours of the school or whenever it is needed, carrying out other duties determined in the plan of charges of the school assistant.

    Amended article 8B concerns the case of teachers leaving their employment to work in another public service or organization. In this case, continuity of retirement benefits is assured and credit is given for past contributions for social security. Similarly, teachers who have previously worked in another public service or organization are given credit for this previous employment, in particular concerning social security, retirement age and retirement benefits.
