    The present Law amends the Laws N 216(I) of 2012 and 52(I) of 2015 on the Retirement Benefits of Employees in the Broader Public Sector, including the Local Authorities (Provisions of General Implementation).

    Article 2 of the present Law amends article 2, by adding the following new terms and definitions: "judge" and "fix monthly amount".

    Article 3 amends article 7, by adding new reservations in subparagraph (i) of paragraph (b) of 1st phrase, concerning the calculation of the monthly gross pension emoluments; in subparagraph (ii) of paragraph (b) of 1st phrase, concerning the binding nature of the pertinent option and in 4th phrase, concerning the calculation of benefits rising from the termination of service for police members.

    Article 4 amends 2nd phrase of article 9, by replacing paragraph (a) with new one, concerning the age of the obligatory termination of service of police members and by replacing the age limit, in paragraph (b), from 60 to 58 years old, and in the 2nd reservation of paragraph (b), from 59 to 58 years old.

    Article 5 replaces article 10 with new one, concerning the voluntary early termination of service.
    Article 6 amends article 11, by amending the 1st phrase with regard to the reference to the pertinent Indexes of the Law, according to the age limit of the obligatory termination of service; by supplementing the 4th phrase, to include the employee who voluntarily relinquishes early or retires from the service, and by deleting phrases 2 and 3.

    Article 7 supplements the Law by adding new article 13A, regarding judges challenge.

    Article 8 repeals Indexes 1 to 12 and introduces new Indexes 1, 2 and 3, concerning, respectively, the coefficients of conversion of one-off amounts to fix yearly amounts, the voluntary early termination of service and the coefficients of actuarial reduction in the retirement benefits of members whose termination of service takes place before the given age limit of the obligatory termination of service.

    Article 9 sets the date into force of the present Law.

    The present Law repeals and replaces the Laws N 113(I) and 191(I) of 2011 on the Retirement Benefits of Public Servants and Employees in the Broader Public Sector, including the Local Authorities.
    Article 2 provides for the definition of the following terms: "actuarial reduction", "actuarial conversion", "deductions", "teacher", "Republic", "Broader Public Sector", "European Union", "position", "medical officers", "professor", "Regulation N 31 (EEC), 11 (EAEC) of 1962", "Public Service", "governmental pension scheme", "Police member", "new entrants to employment", "pertinent Law or Regulations", "periodical contributions", "pensionary emoluments", "retirement benefits", "pensionary", "pension scheme similar to the governmental one" and "employee".
    Article 3 defines the purpose and the scope of application of the present Law.
    Article 4 regulates the procedure of deduction from the monthly pensionary emoluments, whose amount is equal to 3% of the salary.
    Article 5 fixes the amount of the periodical contributions.
    Article 6 prohibits the refund of the periodical contributions.
    Article 7 adjusts the pension rate and fixes the lump sum for the duty time provided before and after the 1st January 2013.
    Article 8 introduces taxation for the lump sum and for any bonus gained on duty from the 1st January 2013 onwards.
    Article 9 specifies the mandatory retirement age.
    Article 10 regulates the voluntary premature retirement.
    Article 11 introduces the actuarial reduction in pension.
    Article 12 excludes the latest spouse of a deceased retired employee from the survivors' benefit, in case of post-retirement death of the previous spouse, followed by the death of the retired employee.
    Article 13 regulates the retirement benefits of the new entrants to employment.
    Article 14 repeals and replaces the Laws N 113(I) and 191(I) of 2011 on the Retirement Benefits of Public Servants and Employees in the Broader Public Sector, including the Local Authorities (Provisions of General Implementation).
    Article 15, determines the present Law's date of entry into force as of the 1st January 2013.
    The Law also provides for the relevant Indexes.

    The present Law amends article 4 of the Laws N 25(I) of 1995, 56(I) of 1996, 53(I) of 1999, 12(I) and 97(I) of 2000 and 155(I) of 2005, by fixing the amount of the Social Retirement Benefit granted for the period from 1st January 2013 to 31st December 2016.

    Article 2 of the present Law provides for the definition of the following terms: "Official", "Emoluments", "Republic", "Public Service", "Broader Public Sector", "Employee", "State Service", "Pension", "Pensioner", "Servant" and "Worker employed on an hourly-basis".
    Article 3 introduces and frames the reduction in emoluments of Officials and Employees and in pensions of Pensioners.
    Article 4 determines the calculation of pension benefits.
    Article 5 regulates the calculation of compensation and other fringe benefits assessed on the basis of the pay scale or the permanent salaries.
    Article 6 decides upon the amount resulting from the reduction in emoluments and pensions effected within the Public Service and the broader Public Sector.
    Article 7 exempts the reduced amount of emoluments and pensions from the taxable income.
    Article 8 regulates the resolution of issues stemming from the implementation of the present Law.
    Article 9, concerning the Laws entry into force, specifies that paras (a) and (b) of article 3 are applicable upon the emoluments of December 2012 onwards, including the 13th wage of 2012, whereas para (c) of article 3 is applicable upon the emoluments of January 2014 onwards.

    Provides for the requirements allowing to a social pension: age of 68 years old completed; legal residence in Cyprus (20 years completed after applicant's 40th birthday or 35 years after 18th birthday); no right for any other pension or any other similar revenue from any source. Monthly payment of the social pension amounts to 70 percent of the basic pension for old age without dependants. In December, an increase of 1/12 of the total amount for the completed year is paied up to the beneficiary. Prior condition is the beneficiary's application in the 3 months starting from the right's acquisition date.

    This act amends certain provisions of the Basic Act on Retirement Pensions (Related Acts Nos. 9/1967, 51/68, 119/68, 9/71, 65/73, 42/76, 38/79, 2/81, 39/81, 25/84, 2/86, 47/87) to provide for early retirement and revise the provisions relating to survivors' benefits (percentage of widow's pension to be 75% or 37.5% according to years of work and number and age of children). Minor amendments concern specific categories of workers such as employees of the Department of Tourism and nurses. Similar amendments are introduced for the retirement pension of teachers.
