    The Minister may divide Barbados into health and sanitation districts under section 3.The Minister, responsible for the implementation of provisions of the present Act, shall carry the functions outlined in section 4. Functions include the suppression of diseases and the control of food. The Minister has the power to construct sewers (sect. 6). Section 18 concerns the sale of food and other products. Section 19 prohibits the taking of water from public taps without permission. The Minister may establish such Boards and Committees as he may think fit for purposes of this Act.

    Establishes a system of national insurance and social security for Barbados providing payments in the form of sickness benefit, invalidity benefit, funeral grant, pension and survivors benefit. Creates a system of employment accident benefits to replace the Workmen's Compensation Act. Part One establishes a National Insurance Board. It sets the constitution of the Board and rules of procedure for Board meetings. Part Two makes provisions on insured persons and contributions. Makes regulations regarding the insurance of, inter alia, self-employed persons, persons under contract, and persons employed abroad. It also includes provisions on sources of funds, payment, voluntary contributions and the collection of contributions. Part Two(A) makes regulations on health service contributions. Part Three describes the benefits made under the Act. It establishes that rates of benefits will be made under further regulations. It also establishes that benefits are inalienable. Part Four extends insurance to diseases. Part Five deals with administration, finance and legal proceedings. It establishes a National Insurance Fund. It states that further regulations will be made for the determination of claims and questions, the administration of benefits, interim payments, arrears and repayments. It also makes provisions on inspectors, offences, penalties, and prosecutions. Part Six establishes miscellaneous and general regulations. It applies the Act to Crown servants, persons abroad and persons working in ships and aircraft. It also ensures the application of the Act in the case of accidents during the course of illegal employment.

    States that the Cabinet under its powers provided for in the Casual Employees Act, 1961, delegates to the Minister of Finance the power to approve a period of local government service as pensionable service when followed by a period of service as a casual employee.

    Provides for the notification of accidents and occupational diseases. Obliges the employer to notify the Chief Labour Officer if an occupational accident, occupational or other disease occurs. Includes forms and particulars for the notification process. Requires employers to keep records of accidents open for inspection by the Chief Labour Officer. States that the Minister for Labour may extend notification of accidents provisions to dangerous occurrences involving risk of serious injury to workers. Sets provisions for an inquest into the case of death by accident or occupational disease. Gives the Minister for Labour the power to direct a formal investigation of accidents and cases of occupational disease. Applies the Act to government departments and agencies.
