    This Nuclear Power Plant Act, consisting of 35 sections, establishes the composition, duties and responsibilities of the company responsible for managing the Rooppur nuclear power plants and other nuclear power plants as well as the management of the concerned structure, dealing also with Managing Director and other directive Functions. In addition, it establishes conditions under which land acquisition is allowed.

    The Act establishes a licensing system for any person or body wishing to import or use formalin. Once implemented, formalin control committees will be formed at every district and Upazila. Import, production, shipment, stock, sales and use of the preservative will require licence. It will be legally binding on licensed traders to show their sales document to the committees.The maximum punishment for breaching licence terms is seven years in prison with Tk 500,000 in fine, and revocation of the licence. Anyone shipping formalin without licence will spend two and a half years in jail and pay up to Tk 300,000 in fine. One in possession of equipment that may be used to produce formalin will be hauled in jail for two and a half years and fined up to Tk 200,000. The law will be effective for formalin, formaldehyde and other government-approved chemicals used for formalin production.

    The object of this Act is to protect the health and safety of people, and to protect the environment from the harmful effects of radiation.
    The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission shall be responsible for making and implementing policies for the following: nuclear safety, radiation control and radioactive waste material; protection of life, health, property and environment from the dangers of radioactive radiation; gathering, production, import, export, transfer, transport, processing, use, etc. of radioactive materials; use and disposal of radioactive waste material.
    The Act further makes provision for the following: procedures of granting licences for the production, import, export, transport, use, etc. of radioactive substances or nuclear materials, and for the processing of foodstuff with radioactive radiation; establishment of research centres; appointment of inspectors; offences; etc.
