    Prescribe que la determinación de trabajos prohibidos para adolescentes de 15 años en adelante se regirá por el respeto a los derechos humanos y derechos de los niños, como directrices fundamentales.

    El acuerdo en cuestión establece el listado de actividades y trabajos peligrosos en los que no podrán ocuparse niños, niñas y adolescentes. Faculta a las autoridades competentes a autorizar el trabajo en aquellas actividades realizadas en los cultivos de caña de azúcar y café, que no contravengan lo estipulado en el Acuerdo, así como también en la pesca artesanal, a partir de los dieciséis (16) años de edad, siempre que queden plenamente garantizadas la educación, salud, la seguridad y la moralidad de los adolescentes y que éstos hayan recibido instrucción o formación ocupacional adecuada y específica en la rama de actividad correspondiente. Impone a las autoridades competentes el deber de identificar y sancionar a los responsables del incumplimiento de las disposiciones sobre la prohibición del trabajo infantil peligroso.

Within trades where children may work, the Act fixes the hours of work, forbids night work, provides for a weekly day of rest, and specifies basic health and safety requirements. The Schedule to the Act sets out the processes and occupations in which it is forbidden to employ children under the age of 14 years. This list is periodically amended by the Child Labour Technical Advisory Committee.

    The purpose of this Act is to regulate the distribution of harmful media materials and drugs, etc. among juveniles and their access to harmful entertainment establishments, and protect and rescue them from the injurious environment including harmful acts such as the abuse of and violence against them in order to help juveniles grow into the persons of sound character. Article 2(5) and 24 contain a list of activities or businesses prohibited to young persons.

  44. Latvia - Hazardous child labour - Regulation, Decree, Ordinance

    Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 206/2002 on occupations in which it is prohibited to employ young workers and exceptions.

    Provides for a list of such occupations. Exceptions concern cases connected with vocational training under appropriate supervision.

    Article 1: Minors under the age of 18 shall not be employed in totally prohibited works and activities which, by their nature harm the health, safety or morals of children, limit their education and constitute one of the worst forms of child labor included in Annex No. (1) hereto attached.

    Article 2: Minors under the age of 16 shall not be employed in works which, by their nature or the circumstances in which they are carried out, are likely to harm the health, safety or morals of children. These works are included in Annex No. (2) hereto attached.

    Article 3: Minors of more than 16 years of age may be employed in the works indicated in Annex No. (2) provided they are offered full protection for their physical, mental and moral health and provided these minors received a special education or appropriate vocational training in the field of these works, unless the type of work or the hazard is totally prohibited for those under the age of 18 as specified in Annex No. (1).
