Gives effect in part to the Merchant Shipping (Minimum Standards) Convention 1976 (International Labour Organisation Convention No. 147) laid before Parliament on 24 April 1978 and ratified by the United Kingdom and in force internationally, which requires that safety standards regarding hours of work be established. Si la relación de trabajo termina por voluntad del patrono en un puerto distinto al de contratación o al de residencia del tripulante, el patrono proveerá los gastos de traslado y manutención del tripulante hasta el lugar de contratación. Se establecen disposiciones sobre el descanso y las vacaciones, se excluyen las huelgas en puerto extranjero, etc.
