This Regulation lays down the characteristics, assessment and selection of personal protective equipment for use at work and the safe use of personal protective equipment at work. In addition to the provisions of this Regulation, the provisions on the use of personal protective equipment in a given job shall be complied with.

This Regulation shall apply to work in which the factor used or present poses or is likely to present an increased risk of cancer. It also applies to mutagenic substances used or present at work. It does not apply to the control of tobacco smoke and the associated risk of cancer in the environment.

The list and register of those exposed to substances and methods that pose a risk of cancer in their profession is to be regulated separately.
