    Ley núm. 20/2018, de 23 de agosto, que aprueba el Código de Organización de la Tutela de Menores (Lei n.º 20/2018, de 23 de Agosto, que aprova o Código de Organização Tutelar de Menores)

    La ley citada aprueba el Código de Organización de la Tutela de Menores, cuyo objetivo general es promover y proteger los derechos de los niños y jóvenes en Santo Tomé y Príncipe, como una forma de garantizar su bienestar y desarrollo integral, teniendo como principios rectores el mejor interés de los niños y jóvenes, su privacidad, la intervención temprana, mínima, proporcional y actual, la responsabilidad parental, la prevalencia familiar, la información obligatoria, la audiencia obligatoria y la participación y subsidiariedad en la jurisdicción de menores, los procedimientos de tutela civil, promoción, protección y recepción de menores, así como las medidas de tutela educativa. El código se estructura de la siguiente manera:
    -Libro I: Parte General
    -Libro II: Tutela Civil
    -Libro III: Promoción y Protección
    -Libro IV: Recepción de Menores
    -Libro V: Tutela Educativa.
