    The Ordinance repeals and replaces the Children Ordinance 1994 (No 28 of 1994). It regulates the welfare, care and supervision of children and young persons as well as setting out provisions concerning protection and safeguarding. Sections 38-43 relate to employment in so far as advice and financial support from the crown for employment, training and education.

    Places restrictions on the employment of children. Prohibits the employment of any child under the age of 14 years, between certain hours and employment that is "likely to harm the health, safety or morals of children, or without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, to lift, carry or move anything so heavy as to be likely to cause injury to him".

    La ley citada modifica el CAPÍTULO XI del Código de la Niñez y la Adolescencia, que trata de la “Protección de los derechos amenazados o vulnerados de las niñas, niños y adolescentes”, sustituyendo los artículos 117 a 131, relativos a los Derechos de las niñas, niños y adolescentes; Deberes y responsabilidades de la defensa; Procedimiento (Principios generales, Competencia, Apelación, Medidas de Protección, Programas de alternativa familiar, Programas de atención residencial en régimen de veinticuatro horas, Internación involuntaria en programas de atención residencial en régimen de veinticuatro horas, Condiciones y supervisión de la internación en programas de atención residencial en régimen de veinticuatro horas); Responsabilidad penal; Finalización del proceso de protección; y Medidas ante el maltrato y la violencia sexual (Objeto, Principios de intervención complementarios, Especialización, Denuncia y Procedimientos, Medidas cautelares, Pericias a niñas, niños o adolescentes, Atención inmediata y reparación del daño, Medidas restaurativas para niños, niñas y adolescentes víctimas de explotación sexual comercial a fin de facilitar su proceso de desvinculación).Crea con carácter permanente el Sistema Integral de Protección a la Infancia y Adolescencia contra la Violencia (SIPIAV), que funcionará en la órbita del Instituto del Niño y Adolescente del Uruguay.
