Résumé/Citation: Prevents most private employers from using lie-dectector tests to screen prospective employees, to test current employees or to subject them to discharge, discipline or discrimination for refusing to take such a test or filing a complaint about the use of lie-detector tests. Job applicants, employees and the Secretary of Labor may file civil suits in federal court asking for legal and equitable relief; the Department of Labor may also seek fines for violators. Under certain conditions, exceptions are provided in cases involving national defence or security and ongoing investigations of economic loss or injury to the employer's business such as theft, embezzlement or sabotage. The Act prescribes procedures to follow in cases in which lie-detector tests are permitted.
