Second Region

Replaces the protection standards adopted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 1971 (29 CFR 1910.134 and 29 CFR CFR 1926.103). Requires employers to establish or maintain a respiratory protection programme for respirator-wearing employees. Also provides for employee training, fit testing, medical evaluation, and respirator use and cleaning. Also requires the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus during interior structural firefighting; furthermore, two firefighters must be on standby to provide assistance or perform rescue when two firefighters are inside a burning building.
