Abstract/Citation: The Ordinance is made by the Island Council of Ascension and applies to those Islands only. It repeals the Employment Control Ordinance, Cap. A11 which was enacted in 1992 to provide that no person should engage in any employment on Ascension except under the authority of a work permit. The implementation of this Ordinance is dependant on detailed regulations dealing with forms, fees and other procedures and, as no such rules have ever been made, the Ordinance has never been applied in practice. Furthermore, employment is also controlled under two other laws. The requirement not to work without the permission of the Administrator has been implemented by means of conditions imposed on Entry Permits under the Entry Control Ordinance, 2007. The Workmen's Protection Ordinance also contains various provisions dealing with passages, reasonable food and housing, medical care, and repatriation of persons recruited from off-Island.
