Repeal and saving The Department of Environment is instituted as per section 3 of this Act and a Director General appointed to lead it. All the provisions are directed to protect the environment by any polluting , be it a solid, liquid, gaseous, or noise, heat and radiation. Rules are indicated in order to avoid any environmental damage when dealing with hazardous substances. By notification in the Official Gazette, an area could be declared ecologically critical area and restrictions applied to the discharge of pollutants in the air, water, land, sea and so on. Inspections on premises ,suspected of polluting the ecosystem, could be ordered and seizure of equipment, materials and samples of polluted resources seized upon. An Environmental Clearance Certificate from the Director General must be issued before initiating any commercial or industrial activity and environmental guidelines provided and largely distributed and enforced in order to prevent ecological disasters. |
