Abstract/Citation: Consolidation of Act No. 81 of 2009 (amendments through March 2017 including Act No. 647 of 2013, Act No. 52 of 2015, Act No. 1565 of 2015, Act No. 285 of 2017).

Contains 22 articles concerning, inter alia:

Article 1: Scope of the act and definition of salaried employees (Officials).
Article 2-4: Termination of contract.
Article 5-8: Illness, military service and parental leave and death.
Article 9: Employees compensation during official mission travel.
Article 10-14: Freedom of association, right to bargain and measures for mediation between employer and employee.
Article 15: Employees' right to accept other occupation when not having adverse effect on the employee's principal work.
Article 16-18: Conditions and compensation related to termination of contract by either employer or employee.
Article 19-21: Rules, including for non-discrimination, for announcing for and recruiting employees.
Article 22: Date of entry into force.

The act contains regulations partly implementing EU Council Directive 1999/70/EC of 28 June 1999 concerning the framework agreement on fixed-term work concluded by ETUC, UNICE and CEEP and EU Council Directive 2000/78/EC of 27 November 2000 establishing a general framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation.

Repeals Act (No 168 of 1938) on the legal relationship between employers and employees in private businesses.
