Abstract/Citation: The purpose of these Regulations is to control and regulate the treatment of food by ionizing radiation.
In order to treat by ionizing radiation any of the food specified in the Schedule to these Regulations, a licence shall be obtained from the Directorate of Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection. The Regulations also provide for the types of ionizing to be used, hygiene procedures, technological conditions to be fulfilled for the treatment of food, packing and labelling requirements, etc. Provisions on the issuance of certificates for the import or export of irradiated food are also given in the text.
