| Abstract/Citation: | Replaces constitution of 1973. Comprises 6 chapters. Chapter 1 (s. 1-3) contains provisions regarding the State. Section 1 defines Kingdom of Bahrain as hereditary constitutional monarchy, but also states that sovereignty is "in the hands of the people, the source of all powers". Section 2 declares Islam the religion of the State and Islamic Shari'a "the principal source for legislation". Chapter 2 (s. 4-16) provides for basic constituents of society. Section 11 states that "all natural wealth and resources are State property". Chapter 3 (s. 17-31) regulates public rights and duties. Section 18 affirms that "people are equal in human dignity, and citizens are equal before the law in public rights and duties". Chapter 4 (s. 32-107) provides for public authorities. Chapter 5 (s. 108-119) deals with financial matters. Chapters 6 and 8 (s. 120-125) contain general and final provisions. |
