Abstract/Citation
Amends Reich and State Citizenship Act, which shall now be known as the State Citizenship Act. As of 1 January 2000, children of foreign parents who are born in Germany shall automatically acquire German citizenship if one parent has lived in Germany for at least eight years and has held an unlimited residence permit for at least three years. Also provides for citizenship applications for foreign children born in Germany before 1 January 2000. Persons who acquire German citizenship and who hold other citizenships must either give up German citizenship or renounce their foreign citizenship at the age of majority. Allows foreign adults to apply for German citizenship if they have legally resided in Germany for eight years, hold an unlimited residence permit, do not profess hostility to the Basic Law, have not been convicted of a crime, and are not supported by social assistance.
