Arbeitsinspektionsgesetz (ArbIG)
Concerns establishment of an administrative authority to ensure the protection of employees' occupational safety and health, especially regarding those standards dealing with occupational accidents, applicable also in particular to young workers, disabled persons and pregnant women. The labour inspectors also ensure that rest periods are taken. To achieve these objectives, the labour inspector visits the enterprises from time to time and also must write an annual report for the ministry for labour and social affairs about such inspections. In the event that an employer does not pay attention to laws applying labour law standards, the inspector first requests that the employer stop violating these laws and if the employer still does not do so, the inspector takes the necessary occupational protective measures, and then gives the employer notice that it must pay a certain amount as a result of its illegal behaviour.
