Second Region

Comprises of 4 Parts and 38 sections. Part I provides for definitions. Parts II and III concern principles and particulars of apprenticeship. Part IV deals with implementation and penalties. Provides that a juvenile may not be employed in a trade other than as an apprentice. This does not apply to a juvenile who has received a certificate under section 22, or passed an examination and received a leaving certificate from a trade school. The Minister of Labour may prescribe regulations in respect of minimum age and minimum education. Provides that an employer shall notify the Commissioner within 15 days from the day on which an apprentice begins to work for him. An employer is obliged to employ the apprentice until the expiration of the period of apprenticeship, employ the apprentice in accordance with the curriculum of apprenticeship and ensure suitable guidance for the apprentice and a work method calculated to impart the trade within the period of apprenticeship and excuse the apprentice from work, without deduction of pay, in order to enable him to attend approved trade lessons. Also provisions in respect of wage, severance of relationship, suspension of apprenticeship, approved trade lessons, examinations and certificates.
