Amends sections 6, 7, 11, 47 and 82 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (LS 1975 - UK 1) and contains provisions on the application of its sections 51 and 77. The amendments to that Act deal in particular with cases in which discrimination is permitted, discrimination as to retirement and the termination of employment. The 1986 Act also amends sections 64 and 73 of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978 (see LS 1984 - UK 1A (consection)), in regard to the upper age limit for unfair dismissal cases, and section 6 of the Equal Pay Act 1970 (LS 1970 - UK 1) in relation to retirement. It repeals section 3 of the Equal Pay Act relating to collective agreements and pay structuresection Restrictions on the employment of women by night in industrial undertakings, imposed by the Hours of Employment (Conventions) Act 1936 (LS 1936 - GBR 2), shall cease to have effect; this is also the case for specified provisions of the Mines and Quarries Act 1954 and the Factories Act 1961 (LS 1961 - UK 1) with respect to women employed (section 7 of the new Act). The Baking Industry (Hours of Work) Act 1954 (LS 1954 - UK 1) is repealed. Three Schedules attached to the new Act summarise when the various repeals come into effect.
