  ACUTE HAZARDS PREVENTION FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE & EXPLOSION Highly flammable.  Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.  NO open flames, NO sparks and NO smoking.  Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.  Use water spray, foam, powder, carbon dioxide.  In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

AVOID ALL CONTACT! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID
Inhalation Headache. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Vomiting. Symptoms may be delayed.  Use ventilation, local exhaust or breathing protection.  Fresh air, rest. Refer immediately for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! Further see Inhalation.  Protective gloves. Protective clothing.  First rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer immediately for medical attention.
Eyes   Wear face shield.  First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then refer for medical attention.
Ingestion See Inhalation.  Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.  Rinse mouth. Refer immediately for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL CLASSIFICATION & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Personal protection: self-contained breathing apparatus. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations.

IRON PENTACARBONYL ICSC: 0168
PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL INFORMATION

Physical State; Appearance
COLOURLESS-TO-YELLOW OR DARK RED VISCOUS LIQUID.

Physical dangers
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

Chemical dangers
The substance , when finely dispersed, may ignite spontaneously on contact with air. Decomposes under the influence of light. Decomposes on heating and on burning. This produces toxic gases including iron oxides and carbon monoxide (see ICSC0023). This generates toxic hazard. The substance is a strong reducing agent. It reacts violently with many other substances. This generates fire and explosion hazard.

EXPOSURE & HEALTH EFFECTS

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance may cause effects on the lungs. Exposure far above the OEL could cause death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

Inhalation risk
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
